Hello! I’m Louretta Nickerson, and I’m thrilled to share my passion for serving our wonderful community. I graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2013 with a degree in Kinesiology and went on to earn my master’s in Social Work from Our Lady of The Lake University in 2019.
My commitment to community service is driven by heartfelt experiences in the Galveston and Harris County area. I’ve had the joy of being a group facilitator and mentor with the March of Dimes Honey Child program, guiding individuals on their unique journeys of growth. At the YMCA of Galveston Branch, I coordinated vibrant community service projects that truly united our community. As 2nd Vice President of the Women’s Missionary Society (Texas Conference) of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, I am proud to have increased membership among young women aged twenty to forty, creating an inclusive space where everyone feels valued and empowered.
I also served as the Program Manager for the Healthy Start Program in collaboration with the University of Houston, working tirelessly to improve maternal health outcomes. In 2024, I took an exciting leap by founding Sisters in Social Work, Inc., a nonprofit wholeheartedly dedicated to uplifting the experiences of Black mothers.
Together, let’s build a brighter, more empowered future!
